**Referred to as a tension strut, a common source of clunks and suspension play** Your X5's tension strut is an integral part of the front suspension and is also a common source of clunking and vibration while driving at highway speed. Typically, the inner bushing will tear allowing for this arm to have excessive movement when the suspension is under high loads. The inner bushing can be replaced separately from the arm but we typically recommend replacing the entire arm as a one piece assembly to avoid the need to press out the old bushing and press in the new bushing. Per BMW, this arm is only exchangeable in pairs.
