If one tie rod assembly has gone bad on your BMW and needs to be replaced it is a common practice to replace them in pairs. This allows for proper alignment and reduces play in the front suspension. When replacing tie rods many neglect to replace the steering rack bellows which is also recommended to be done. The steering rack bellows prevent dirt and moisture from getting inside the steering rack and inner tie rod end joint. Inner tie rods can be a hassle to remove.
